My name is Iria Taibo

and I’m a translator, proofreader and interpreter.

I studied Translation and Interpretation in the Philology and Translation faculty of Vigo University and specialised in the language combinations of Galician / English / Portuguese. I spent a year studying at the Social and Human Sciences faculty of the New University of Lisbon, thanks to a Socrates-Erasmus grant.

I have worked full time as a self-employed freelance translator since October, 2013 and during this time I have had the chance to work for various translation agencies, publishers and direct corporate clients on a range of interesting projects.

As a translator I work in the fields of tourism, gastronomy and oenology, and also do technical translations (non-destructive testing, for example). I have also worked on a wide range of corporate documentation projects (financial, legal, internal training, reports, etc.).

As an interpreter, I primarily work in the corporate field and as a conference and liaison interpreter.

As a proofreader, I work on agency-led projects or directly for clients.

I am happy to coordinate any type of linguistic project for my corporate clients, regardless of whether they are in my specialist fields or language pairs as I collaborate with a number of colleagues in this sector.

I’m a member of AGPTI (Asociación Galega de Profesionais da Tradución e a Interpretación), Aptrad (Associação Portuguesa de Tradutores e Intérpretes) and Asetrad (Asociación Española de Traductores, Correctores e Intérpretes).

Before becoming a translator…

Prior to graduating, I had a number of jobs in the private (as a Portuguese speaking telephone operator) and public sectors (in the municipal council of Oleiros). However, the most important work was for the Mesa pola Normalización Lingüística, between 2005 and 2013. However, I always intended to work as a full-time translator.

What I can do for you.

As well as offering direct translation, interpreting and proofreading services I also act as consultant for a number of companies and manage their linguistic projects. It is of utmost importance for me to establish a relationship based on trust so that anybody that contracts my services knows that they will receive the best possible service in the timeframe agreed.
